Richard William Halfnight was born in Sunderland and studied at Newcastle School of Art under William Cozens Way. He moved to London where he studied Art under Yeend King for three years. He exhibited widely throughout his career showing works at the Royal Academy, The Suffolk Street, Gallery, The Royal Institute of Oil Painters, and various London and Provincial Galleries.
