An antique Chinese Imperial Celadon-White Jade Seal with Shiquan Laoren, Ten-Perfections Old Man, Inscription. Shiquan Laoren was a self-styled title used by the Qianlong Emperor after his 80th birthday in 1790. The term referred to ten successful military campaigns, symbolizing martial accomplishment and imperial grandeur. Qianlong used this title on seals, poetry, paintings, and calligraphy to reflect his ideal as a perfect sovereign wise, victorious, and long-lived. This seal bears the characters translated Shiquan Laoren in large seal script and features a finely carved high-standing chilong on the knop, symbolizing imperial authority and heavenly blessing. The body is richly adorned with ruyi cloud scrolls in classic Qing court style. This seal is carved from celadon-white jade of high translucency and even texture. The seal knop features a single hornless dragon standing upright with head turned and eyes wide open, exuding power and dignity. The dragon grasps a lingzhi fungus or perhaps exhales a cloud of auspicious vapor from its mouth, symbolizing the blessing of longevity and the beauty of harmonious speech. The dragons limbs are taut, and its coiling tail merges seamlessly with the seal base. The body of the seal is decorated with densely arrayed ruyi cloud scrolls, reflecting the refined and symmetrical style of Qing imperial jade carving. This seal embodies the Qianlong Emperor’s imperial aesthetic and symbolic expression. The standing chilong, with its fierce gaze and lingzhi-bearing mouth, signifies auspicious speech, long life, and virtue through jade symbolism. The seals structure and ornamentation exemplify high craftsmanship and imperial authority. The inscription Shiquan Laoren appears in many of Qianlongs poems and paintings, and such seals are documented in scholarly references such as the Catalogue of Imperial Jade Seals in the Palace Museum. If provenance is traceable to the Qing court, this piece would possess substantial academic, curatorial, and market value.
