The placement of the jaguars legs makes it appear to be sitting like a human, with the tail being used to support the figure. Sculpted details, hand-painted red and black ornaments. Provenance: Estate of Eric Jansson, Roswell, Georgia. The jaguar was believed to be a god of the underworld by Native American cultures. The jaguar effigy vessels were used to represent a deceased person. Collectible Ceramics and Pottery, Ancient American Historical Relics.
