Hippolyte Francois Moreau, French, 1832 to 1927, an antique bronze sculpture. The sculpture depicts the Maid of Orleans, Joan of Arc, with a sword raised high above her head and a flag in her other hand. Signed on the base. Bears an attached metal plaque that reads: Jeanne D Arc, par Hip Moreau, Medaille d Or. Circa the early 20th century. Hippolyte Moreau was born in 1832 in Dojon, France. Moreau was the son of Jean-Baptiste, a renowned sculptor. Hippolyte Moreau first worked at the family atelier. After he gained experience there he moved to Paris to study under tutorship of Jouffroy. In 1859, Moreau exhibited his first oeuvre at the Salon. From 1889 through 1917, Moreau frequently exhibited his work at the Salon des Artistes Francais.
