Jan Lebenstein, Polish, 1930 to 1999, watercolor and ink on paper painting. The artwork depicts a wild boar carrying a nude woman away. Signed in the lower left. Undated. Unframed. The artwork comes with a certificate of authenticity. Jan Lebenstein studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under Eugeniusz Eibisch and Artur Nacht-Samborski. In 1955 he took part in an exhibition at the Warsaw Arsenal. In 1959 he won the Grand Prix de la Ville de Paris at the 1st Youth Biennale in Paris. During this time Lebestein moved to France where he became a part of the Parisian Kultura community. The artist was most strongly inspired by the great texts of world culture as well as the mythologies of ancient civilizations like Assyria, Babylon, Egypt, and Greece, and the Bible.
