Lanre Buraimoh, Nigerian born, American, born 1976, mixed media, glass beads and acrylic, on board, The Lone Witness, 2024. Framed. Signed, inscribed, and dated, on the backside. Completed with a certificate of authenticity, signed and dated 2025. Provenance: Private Collection of Mrs. Bukola Osukoya. Lanre Buraimoh, born in 1976 in the culturally rich city of Osogbo, Osun State, Nigeria, emerged from an artistic lineage, honing his skills under the guidance of his parents, Chief Jimoh Buraimoh and Mrs. Alake Buraimoh, both celebrated contemporary artists. He graduated with a degree in Business Administration from AMBROS Ali University and Osun State Polytechnic in 2001 and 2005, respectively, but he pursue career in art. Lanres distinctive bead painting technique, infused with vibrant Yoruba symbols, reflects the cultural tapestry of his roots. Influenced by the ancient city of Osogbo and Yoruba society, his works encapsulate themes of traditional beliefs, love, entertainment, animals, and unity. Notably, Lanre has received recent accolades from esteemed council members, including recognition from the President of the City of Indianapolis and Marion County for his outstanding contribution to the Osogbo Art and Heritage exhibition. Additionally, the City of Los Angeles commended him through a council member for his impactful presence in the Artfully Space Gallery exhibition. In 2023, he received a special recognition from Mayor Sylvester Turner for his participation in the art exhibition titled Celebration of Freedom in remembrance of Juneteenth in Houston. His artistic prowess transcends borders, with exhibitions in Nigeria, Denmark, London, Canada, and the United States of America. Lanres bead paintings, characterized by beauty and colorful signatures, have earned international acclaim, including awards from prestigious platforms such as the American Art Award in California, Citywide African American Exhibit in Houston, Coastal League Museum in California, American Art Award California, Light Space and Time Gallery in Florida, and People Upstream Gallery in Omaha, Nebraska. In 2019, Lanre Buraimoh achieved distinction as one of the Houston Artadia Fellows, a testament to his significant influence in the contemporary art scene. Beyond his artistic endeavors, Lanre passionately shares his craft through workshops, inspiring both children and adults at home and abroad. Recognized for his originality, simplicity, and the radiant hues of shining glass beads, Lanre stands as a testament to his versatile and impactful contributions to the modernized West African art form.
