Lot 0230: BRONZE DOUBLE FIGURE SHRINE NEPAL, 17TH CENTURY

This is possibly a Hindu ritual bronze shrine (mandapa) featuring Rama and Lakshmana, most likely from Nepal or the Western Himalayan region (Garhwal–Kumaon). or Two attendant deities / guardians (Dvarapalas) or two Princely Bodhisattvas. from the Nepalese or Western Himalayan tradition (possibly early Nepal / Kathmandu Valley or Indian Himalayan regions such as Himachal / Kumaon). Or alternatively, This is possibly also a type of shrine known as a "Panchayatana" or "Parivar Devata" portable altar, though this is unusual due to the dual figures, flanking aureoles, and twin umbrella finials. It dates stylistically to around 17th–18th century, with strong earlier influences. PROBABLE DATE Late Malla Period (17th–18th century) Could be slightly earlier stylistically, but the lamp plates and overall form suggest late Malla era. AUTHENTICITY Patina is naturally developed. Casting flaws are appropriate. No signs of modern rotary tool aging. Underside cavity residue looks correct. Evidence supporting authentic age: Copper alloy patina with natural cuprite red, malachite green, and black manganese deposits Hand-carved reverse side with uneven rasp/chisel marks – older Nepalese bronzes show exactly this Wear to high points of the figures (chest, hands, nose, ornaments) from centuries of devotional contact No indications of modern polishing or artificial aging Cavity in the base consistent with old lost-wax casting practices It is 20 cm by 30 cm (height) by 12 cm in width.
