This dramatic scene depicts the god of the sea holding his trident while being pulled across the waves by seahorses, symbolizing his absolute command over the marine world. The border is decorated with scenes of Tritons and satyr masks. The body of the ewer features a central scene of Venus, the Roman goddess of love and beauty, accompanied by cherubs. The rest of the body is adorned with foliage and acanthus leaves. It features the high-arched handle, terminating in a sculpted head and a flared neck with a spout, flanked by the mask of Neptune.
