Lot 0238: JAPANESE MEIJI PERIOD PATINATED COPPER TEAPOT
An antique Japanese copper tea kettle (dobin), dating to the late Meiji–Taisho period, c.1890–1925. It features a traditional rounded body with vertical ribbed decoration, a curved spout, and a swing handle attached to cast side lugs. The domed lid has a decorative knop, and the base bears a small stamped kanji makers mark, indicating workshop production. Hand-formed from copper, the kettle shows an attractive aged patina with natural oxidation consistent with age and use, with expected interior wear typical of antique copper vessels. Such kettles were traditionally used for heating water for tea and are associated with Japanese metalworking traditions, likely from the Takaoka region, renowned for copperware. Japanese Metalware Pieces, Tableware, Drinkware.
