A Russian Soviet era book, the collection of articles, Higher Education in the RSFSR and the New Student Body, published in Petrograd in 1923. The creator of this famous typographic cover is the distinguished graphic artist Sergei Vasilyevich Chekhonin, a member of the World of Art Mir Iskusstva movement. The cover of the book is executed in Chekhonin’s unique manner, combining classical graphic traditions featuring intricate hatching, floral motifs, and monograms with the revolutionary Soviet avant garde. The book was published by the Commission for Aid to Proletarian Students under the All Union Central Council of Trade Unions. The collection is devoted to the reform of higher education in the young Soviet republic, the process of proletarianization of universities, as well as the creation and development of the first workers faculties.
