Lot 0316: VINTAGE BRONZE SAO COMB FROM CHAD CENTRAL AFRICA

A beautiful Sao comb made of bronze. The handle is decorated with a stylized figurine of a man on a horseback on top as finial. Chad, Central Africa, circa 1960s. Provenance: New York, Private collection. The Sao civilization (also called So) flourished in Central Africa from ca. the fourth or sixth century BC to as late as the sixteenth century AD. The Sao civilization unfortunately no longer exists but inspired many artists and craftsmen in the region of Chad and Nigeria.
