Thomas Holland, American, 1917 to 2004, a terracotta with bronze patina sculpture representing a nude female figure standing with raised hands. Bears and incised signature, dated 1967, numbered F19. Note: Thomas Holland was born in Alameda, California and studied at the California College of Arts and Crafts, UC Berkley and the University of Mexico. An interesting and charismatic character, Holland also dabbled with ballet, sailing, boxing, and fencing. Holland created bronze pieces with an equestrian theme, using his interest in polo as a means of injecting energy and motion into his pieces.
